RSA5 Tcode in SAP BW: Load ECC Transaction Data

โšก Smart Summary

Loading transaction data from ECC into SAP BW uses transaction RSA5 to enhance and activate the DataSource, replicates its metadata in BW, and then loads the data through an InfoPackage into the PSA staging layer.

  • ๐Ÿ”„ ECC to BW: Transaction data flows from ECC DataSources into the BW staging layer.
  • ๐Ÿ”ง Transaction RSA5: RSA5 activates and enhances the business content DataSource in ECC.
  • โž• Add Fields: Unselected fields such as EFFWR are checked to push extra data into BW.
  • ๐Ÿ” Replicate Metadata: The BW system replicates the DataSource definition after activation.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ InfoPackage to PSA: An InfoPackage loads the data from ECC into the PSA staging layer.
  • ๐Ÿค– AI Assistance: AI and intelligent automation schedule extractions and flag load errors early.

What is Transaction Data Loading from ECC?

Loading transaction data from ECC into SAP BW makes business transaction data, such as purchasing or sales documents, available for reporting. This example uses the Logistics (Purchasing) module to extract data from an ECC DataSource, enhance it, replicate it in BW, and load it into the PSA staging layer.

Enhance and Activate the DataSource in ECC (RSA5)

Step 1) Log into the ERP system.

  1. Input the T-code RSA5.
  2. Click the Continue button.

FAQs

RSA5 activates SAP-delivered business content DataSources, moving them from a delivered to an active state. RSA6 maintains and post-processes those active DataSources, for example to hide fields or change extraction settings after activation.

Metadata replication copies the DataSource definition from the source ECC system into BW, so BW knows the available fields and structure. You replicate after activating or changing a DataSource, before building transformations and loading data.

A 2LIS extractor is a standard Logistics (LO) cockpit DataSource that extracts transaction data from modules such as Purchasing, Sales, and Inventory. For example, 2LIS_02_ITM extracts purchasing data at item level for loading into BW.

Yes. Intelligent automation and the SAP Joule AI copilot can schedule extractions, monitor delta loads, and answer setup questions, while modern tools such as SAP Datasphere streamline ECC-to-BW pipelines with less manual configuration.

Machine learning scans load logs to classify errors, suggest likely causes, and recommend reruns. This intelligent monitoring reduces the manual effort of analyzing failed InfoPackages and DTPs and speeds up recovery of nightly loads.
