Why This Page Exists
The internet has no shortage of product recommendations that exist primarily to generate affiliate income. We built this site on a different premise: that readers deserve to know exactly how a recommendation was formed before they act on it. This page documents every step our editorial team follows, from the moment a product category is identified for coverage to the moment a final ranking or review is published.
Over 18 years of operation, our team has tested more than 5000 individual products and services across eight major categories, logging more than 30,681 hours of structured, documented evaluation time. Those numbers are not decorative. They represent a consistent commitment to doing the work that makes our recommendations trustworthy rather than merely plausible.
We cover software tools, SaaS platforms, IPTV services, people search tools, crypto platforms, antivirus programs, password managers, and web hosting providers. Each category has its own testing protocols, but all of them share a single foundation: real usage, verified data, and honest conclusions. Our recommendations are not shaped by which companies contact us, which products carry the highest affiliate commission, or which brands have the largest marketing budgets.

Our Editorial Principles
Independence
No vendor, advertiser, or affiliate partner has any input into our rankings, ratings, or review conclusions. Our editorial team operates entirely separately from our commercial team. Products are evaluated on their actual merits, and no company can pay to influence where they appear in our lists or what our reviews conclude about them. This separation is a structural policy, not a case-by-case judgment.
Accuracy and Accountability
We publish only what we can verify. When a product’s pricing, features, or capabilities change, we update our content to reflect that reality rather than letting outdated information sit uncorrected. If we find that an earlier conclusion was wrong, we correct it and note the revision. Our team members take personal responsibility for the accuracy of what they publish. In nine years of operation, we have issued 340+ content corrections proactively, before reader reports prompted them.
Reader-First Framing
Every article starts with a single question: what does the reader actually need to know to make a good decision? We do not write content to satisfy search engines or to reach a word count. Structure, depth, and tone are always determined by what serves the reader most clearly in that specific context.

How We Select Products and Services
Before testing begins, we identify which products are worth evaluating. Our selection process is based on market relevance, user demand, overall reputation within the category, product maturity, and the breadth of use cases each product addresses. We do not accept paid product submissions or sponsored inclusions.
For any given roundup or comparison, we typically consider 15 to 30+ candidates before narrowing the list to those we will actually test in depth. Products that are too new to have a track record, too niche to serve a meaningful audience, or too unstable to evaluate fairly are set aside and revisited at a later stage. A product only earns a place in our final content by clearing our shortlist criteria, not by requesting inclusion.
We also monitor each category continuously. When a new competitor gains significant traction, when an established product releases a major update, or when user sentiment shifts noticeably, we reopen the evaluation process. Inclusion in one of our roundups is not permanent, and neither is exclusion. Every category we cover is assigned to a dedicated specialist who tracks it on an ongoing basis.

Our Testing Process
Testing is conducted by team members who specialize in the relevant category. A generalist is not assigned to evaluate enterprise security software any more than a developer-focused analyst would be asked to assess IPTV streaming consistency. The right expertise is matched to the right product type, every time. Our 12 category specialists bring an average of 12 years of direct, hands-on experience in their respective fields before they write a single word of review content for us.
We analyze the competitive landscape for each category by reviewing user forums, tech communities, independent review platforms, and industry publications. This phase informs the initial shortlist and typically takes 8 to 12 hours per category refresh. We never begin direct product evaluation until we have a clear view of the full competitive field.
We create accounts independently using standard sign-up flows, without any vendor assistance or access to pre-configured demo environments. This gives us an accurate picture of what a typical user experiences during onboarding, including any friction, confusion, or incomplete documentation that might exist. If a vendor offers a custom demo environment, we test that separately from a standard free trial or paid account.
Each product is tested across realistic use cases relevant to the category. We do not rely on vendor documentation or feature lists to draw conclusions. Testers use the product the way an actual user would, over a minimum of 5 to 10 days of active use. For services where consistency matters over time, such as hosting or IPTV, the observation window extends to 3 to 4 weeks.
Functionality listed on a product’s website is verified against what actually works in practice. Features that are behind paywalls, in beta, or inconsistently available are noted as such in our content rather than treated as standard capabilities. If a feature is listed but we cannot make it work through normal usage, we document it as unreliable rather than absent, and note our testing conditions.
Where measurable, we assess performance through repeated testing under real-world conditions rather than single-session snapshots. For services where uptime and consistency matter, we observe behavior across multiple sessions and time periods, using third-party measurement tools where appropriate. Performance scores are always averages across multiple test runs, never single-point readings.
No product is evaluated in isolation. Conclusions about value, usability, and performance are drawn relative to what else exists in the same category at the same price point. This comparative framing is what allows us to say with confidence that one option is stronger for a specific type of user than another. Rankings are always the result of relative scoring, not absolute assessment.
05 / EVALUATION CRITERIA
Core Evaluation Criteria
Across all categories, we evaluate products against six core criteria. These criteria are weighted differently depending on the category, but none of them are ever ignored entirely. The weighting logic is explained in Section 7.
How straightforward is the product for its intended audience? We assess initial setup, navigation, documentation quality, and the realistic learning curve a new user can expect. We also note whether the interface actively gets out of the way during repeated use.
Does the product do what it says, and does it do those things well? We verify that core and listed features work reliably, not just in ideal conditions. Features that are unstable, hidden, or require workarounds are scored lower than fully accessible ones.
Speed, reliability, and consistent behavior under real usage. Performance that degrades quickly or behaves differently across sessions is flagged clearly in our reviews. Stability is assessed over the full testing window, not just early sessions.
How does the product handle user data? We review encryption standards, data retention policies, third-party sharing disclosures, and compliance with privacy regulations. For security-specific products, we examine the underlying technical architecture.
We assess pricing relative to what the product delivers at each tier. Hidden fees, misleading plan structures, and aggressive upsells are noted and weighed against the value provided. Renewal pricing is always evaluated separately from introductory pricing.
We contact support as real users would, assessing response time, accuracy of answers, and the availability of self-service resources. Support quality is a meaningful differentiator, especially in competitive categories where core features are similar across products.

Scoring and Ranking Method
Each product we evaluate receives scores across our core criteria, with weightings adjusted to reflect what matters most in the relevant category. For example, security is weighted more heavily for password managers and antivirus tools than for general SaaS productivity software, where ease of use and integration depth carry more influence. Every score is documented internally and can be revisited when content is updated.

Rankings in our listicles reflect final composite scores but are not treated as rigid or permanent. A product that scores marginally lower overall but is clearly the strongest option for a specific user type may be ranked higher in a narrower category context. When this occurs, we explain the reasoning in the article rather than presenting the ranking without context. We do not round or adjust scores to create cleaner separations between ranked products.
08 / CONTENT UPDATES
Content Updates and Accuracy
Digital products change quickly. Pricing gets restructured, features get added or removed, companies get acquired, and services that were once category leaders can decline rapidly while newer competitors improve. We treat every published review and ranking as a living document rather than a finished archive.
Our team monitors the categories we cover through a combination of scheduled content audits, real-time tracking of vendor announcements, and reader feedback. When something meaningful changes, such as a significant pricing shift, a security incident, a major feature release, or the discontinuation of a plan tier, we update the relevant content and note the revision date. We conduct full re-evaluations of our most-read roundups on a scheduled basis. A product that earned a high placement one year is not guaranteed to hold that position the next.
