## What is Transaction Data Loading from ECC?

Loading transaction data from ECC into SAP BW makes business transaction data, such as purchasing or sales documents, available for reporting. This example uses the Logistics (Purchasing) module to extract data from an ECC DataSource, enhance it, replicate it in BW, and load it into the PSA staging layer.

## Enhance and Activate the DataSource in ECC (RSA5)

**Step 1)** Log into the [ERP system](https://www.guru99.com/erp-full-form.html).

1. Input the T-code RSA5.
2. Click the Continue button.

**Step 2)** Click on the folder SAP R/3 as shown below.

**Step 4)** Choose the DataSource 2LIS\_02\_ITM, which is purchasing data at item level.

[![Load Transaction Data from ECC in SAP](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP_BI/sap_bi_17_4.jpg)](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP%5FBI/sap%5Fbi%5F17%5F4.jpg)

**Step 5)** Choose the DataSource 2LIS\_02\_ITM, go to the DataSource tab, and click Change the DataSource.

[![Load Transaction Data from ECC in SAP](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP_BI/sap_bi_17_5.jpg)](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP%5FBI/sap%5Fbi%5F17%5F5.jpg)

**Note:** This step is used when you need to add additional fields to push into BW. The same steps (1-5) can be repeated for fields you do not wish to populate in BW. After choosing the Change DataSource tab, you can see all the fields associated with this DataSource.

[![Load Transaction Data from ECC in SAP](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP_BI/sap_bi_17_6.jpg)](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP%5FBI/sap%5Fbi%5F17%5F6.jpg)

**Step 6)** The field EFFWR (Effective value item) is unchecked in the selection field, which means it is not available in BW. To populate EFFWR in BW, check it in the selection field as shown below.

[![Load Transaction Data from ECC in SAP](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP_BI/sap_bi_17_7.jpg)](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP%5FBI/sap%5Fbi%5F17%5F7.jpg)

**Step 7)** After checking the field EFFWR in the selection, save the DataSource as shown below.

[![Load Transaction Data from ECC in SAP](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP_BI/sap_bi_17_8.jpg)](https://www.guru99.com/images/sap/SAP%5FBI/sap%5Fbi%5F17%5F8.jpg)

**Step 8)** Activate the DataSource as shown below.

## FAQs

🆚 What is the difference between RSA5 and RSA6 in SAP?

RSA5 activates SAP-delivered business content DataSources, moving them from a delivered to an active state. RSA6 maintains and post-processes those active DataSources, for example to hide fields or change extraction settings after activation.

🔁 What is metadata replication in SAP BW?

Metadata replication copies the DataSource definition from the source ECC system into BW, so BW knows the available fields and structure. You replicate after activating or changing a DataSource, before building transformations and loading data.

📦 What is a 2LIS extractor in SAP?

A 2LIS extractor is a standard Logistics (LO) cockpit DataSource that extracts transaction data from modules such as Purchasing, Sales, and Inventory. For example, 2LIS\_02\_ITM extracts purchasing data at item level for loading into BW.

🤖 Can AI automate data extraction from ECC to BW?

Yes. Intelligent automation and the SAP Joule AI copilot can schedule extractions, monitor delta loads, and answer setup questions, while modern tools such as SAP Datasphere streamline ECC-to-BW pipelines with less manual configuration.

🧠 How does AI help resolve data load errors?

Machine learning scans load logs to classify errors, suggest likely causes, and recommend reruns. This intelligent monitoring reduces the manual effort of analyzing failed InfoPackages and DTPs and speeds up recovery of nightly loads.
